WHAT IS A QUICK FIX?
Quick Fixes were born in the Autumn of 2000. Our bulletin board members at Scifi.com/Highlander begrudgingly realized that the SciFi Network would no longer air Highlander: The Series. We were heartsick, confused and bereft. Highlander deprivation loomed ahead. Methos’ “unthinkable alternative” had, in fact, occurred! One BB member offered a brilliant suggestion. Those of us who had access to tapes could watch one episode a week, in sequence, and we could continue our weekly discussions. Highlander: TS is so lush, diverse, multi-layered; each viewing uncovers new insights. Boredom has never been an option. The watchers began watching. The Gathering was the first episode. Unfortunately, this was unfair to the tapeless among us. Most had seen the episode at least once. Some (new to Highlander), had never seen it. But, no one should be left out. In the spirit of fun and altruism, I decided to encapsulate the episode. I would call it a Thumbnail Version, but its purpose was a “quick fix” for a Highlander junkie. No simple synopsis for me! That would have been too easy. No.... I had to make it rhyme. A poem. (What was I thinking?) I soon was addicted to writing the things and, have written one a week since then. We are just finishing Season Two. Almost forty episodes have been completed. Only about eighty to go. (Pant! Gasp!) I hope you enjoy reading them and that they bring a smile to your face. Maybe also an occasional tear will come to your eye when you remember the magnificent achievement and the glory that was Highlander: The Series. As we diehard fans know, “There can be only one.” And it will return. Peace, Emit Highlander and the Violence — an essay
